Paperclay Lanterns part one – work in progress

Here are some images from the porcelain Paperclay Lantern work shop at the New Brewery Arts in Cirencester. The workshop was a one day taster to learn the basics of paperclay and come away with some beautiful, seasonal lanterns to light up the dark winter evenings.

The lanterns were multi-layered with cut away detail, pierced patterns, additions and inclusions that would burn away leaving paper-thin translucent sections. For those of you interested in the technical side, the lanterns will be fired in an oxidised stoneware firing, and will glow a warm colour rather than the colder blue of reduction fired porcelain.
