Yesterday I went to the private view of an excellent exhibition by a student of mine, Mike O’Dowd, who has been in the Ceramic Sculpture class at Lansdown and Stroud College over the last six years. ‘Milton’s Garden’ is an exhibition of Mike’s ceramic work and paintings by his daughter, Rachel. The work references evolution (with a gently humorous twist) and also Milton’s Samson Agonistes.
The colourful, semi-abstract, sensuous paintings are so different aesthetically, technically and thematically that there is little competition between the two artists’ work and the two hang well together. It is well worth a visit!
The show is on until the 14th June at the Lansdown Gallery in Stroud. For more details see: http://lansdownhall.org/gallery.html
