Paperclay Sketchbooks

Last month I led a really fun, informal one day workshop at the Brewery Arts, making paperclay sketchbooks. It gave the students a good knowledge of some of the basic paperclay techniques including joining dry sections, force drying, using very thin sheets and applying body stain to raw clay. The group experimented with printing, stamping, scrafitto and stencils and built up surface texture with additional layers. It gave the students a chance to experiment without the pressure of making anything specific, although towards the end we discussed page layouts and lacing methods. There was some lovely varied work as you can see from these work in progress photos:

Many thanks for all who took part in this workshop, looking forward to seeing your finished fired work!

The next workshop at the Brewery Arts will be Paperclay Lanterns on the 12th November, for more information see: http://www.newbreweryarts.org.uk/wpaperclay-lanterns-nov16
