After a wonderful two day paperclay masterclass a week ago (full update to come soon!) I’m getting ready for the next paperclay paperclay workshop. This time it’s paperclay sketchbooks at the fantastic Brewery Arts in Cirencester.
This workshop is a really fun and very creative introduction to paperclay, but also a way to explore ideas, designs, source material and new techniques in a truly free and playful way. We’ll be learning the basics of paperclay whilst developing large designs on sheets of porcelain paperclay: a beautiful material that takes print and impressions wonderfully clearly. Previous paperclay sketchbooks workshop participants have included textile artists, paper designers, book artists and illustrators as well as many people who simply want to learn about paperclay and explore a new material.
After exploring the material and new techniques (including stamping, printing, working with super fine inclusions, adding bone dry sections and raw glazing etc) you will be able to cut your sheet into the pages of a book ready to be fired and sewn or wired into a 3d sketchbook. The emphasis in this workshop is on what a sketchbook can be; a collection of thoughts, a source of inspiration, recollections or memories, a coherent story or a mixture of ideas? What will yours include?
